College of Arts and Sciences' Player spiked through his defender in a match against CNU-Balamban.
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) men’s volleyball team defeated the College of Teacher Education (CTE) in their thrilling championship game last September 18, 2015.
CTE won the first set with a score of 25 against CAS with 16. But the CAS managed to recover and changed the mood of the game in the second set defeating CTE with 25 over 18. And this resulted for them to have the third set to declare the winner.
CAS scored the first five leaving CTE with zero, 5-0.
In the middle of the game, CTE always missed the spikes given by CAS resulting to a
score of 13-10. Since it was the third set, it was the time to change court or for them
to exchange places.
Every point literally counts for both teams. Since the CAS’ three-point lead, both teams
alternately scored until CTE reached the score 22 following CAS with 23.
But the barter of score broke when Padin from CTE touched the net that gave CAS the
point. One last point and CAS will finally win but CTE managed to gain the next two
points matching CAS with both scoring 24.
As the rule of the game goes, a slide two has been given. This means that the winning score will be 26 instead of 25.
Thinking the critical score of both 24, CAS secured the next two points that declared them as this year’s men’s volleyball champion.
The players, coaches, and the students of College and Arts and Sciences flocked to the volleyball court jumping high and shouting at the top of their lungs, screaming for joy and proudly raised their red banners with “Go CAS” printed on it.
Afterwards, the CAS’ varsity players formed a circle in the middle of the court and emotionally but happily prayed for thanksgiving.
When Madiclum, one of the players, was asked why they had a hard time in the first set he said it was just a warm-up for them.
“Mura ra man mig nag try-out ato nga time gud. Murag wa pa mi ka warm-up ug tarong ba.” said Madiclum.
He added that it is because of their great determination and with God’s guidance that helped them win the game.
“ Salig ra gyud mi sa Ginoo, sa among mga kauban ug sa among kaugalingon maong nadaug gyud!” and he felt, “Happiest!”
Coach Reymart Sarsoza, CAS Men’s Volleyball Team Coach, said that he is very proud and happy that all their efforts and struggles in their everyday practice were paid off.
“Grateful pud kayo ko sa team nga naningkamot gyud sila ba nga makadaog bisag daghan kaayo ug problema sa practice kada adlaw.” Among the problems he pointed out were the budget delays, practice area and the weather. Inspite of all this Coach Sarzosa proudly said that “We are the Champion!”
