Educators stay on the limelight

Battle of the Bands Winners rejoices after receiving their medals
The College of Teacher Education triumphed for multiple victories and has defended their title as the overall champion for Culture and Arts Festival Competition (CAFC) which took place at two different venues last September 17, 2015.
According to the Educator’s Club Governor, Janvarica B. Acop, that last year’s CAFC has been their only basis for defending their title as overall champion.
The contests were Kundiman Vocal Solo, Instrumental Viola and Guitar, Pop Solo, Pop Duet and Live Band.
All participants from different colleges performed different Original Pinoy Music (for Pop Solo, Pop Duet and Live Band) and Kundiman pieces (for Vocal Solo, Instrumental Viola and Guitar).
There were five Kundiman Vocal Solo participants. Blezzy S. Villegas from Medellin; Jessa Marie C. Menor from College of Nursing; Jecel Sabalande from Balamban; and John Daryl Arnado from College of Arts and Sciences. They gave justice to the Kundiman songs that they chose to sing but Nisa Mariven B. Revoltar stood out in conveying the audience of Emma Center as she melodically delivered her Kundiman piece entitled Malungkot ang Maya.
The Kundiman champion received her medal emotionally when she was proclaimed as the
winner for this category.
“Two days before the Intramurals, grabe kaayo ang pressure nga kong na feel. A day for pra-
ctice with the pianist and I was the only participant who practiced without my coach’s com-
pany. But I have decided to have my mother as to accompany my song. I told my mother
that I dedicate this to her and to lola. My lola was really my mentor when it comes to this
kind of genre. Grabe ang akong kulba knowing that the same mi ug piece sa representative
sa CN. Pag awarding, wala ko mag expect para dili ko madisappoint but God gave me the
prize for all the stress and struggles that I went through. Nakahilak ko when I saw my
mama crying when one of the judges gave me the medal. I ran to her saying that my me-
dal’s for her. Worth it jud tanan and with God’s grace, He gave me a new inspiration to sing
more.” Revoltar shared.
Moreover, the Instrumental Guitar Solo were participated by Angelika S. Yuson from Me-
dellin, Ma. Aurey Fe L. Alfone from CN and Xaviery Phua from CAS. Earl Bryant Abonitalla
won as he gracefully plucked his guitar as he played his own rendition of Panalangin by Apo
Hiking Society.
Sigrid Lopez also showed her skills in playing violin as she heartily rendered her piece
entitled Ikaw by Yeng Constantino. She won against Fatima Ruth Saromines from CAS.
“Grabe akong kakulba pagbarog nako sa atubangan that’s why I closed my eyes para ma feel nako kanta. I am more blessed than anything”, Lopez added.
Mariel V. Minglanilla belted her masterpiece as she represented her department (CTE) for Pop Solo Category which was held at Centennial Stage. She wowed the crowd as she powered her own rendition of Morissette Amon’s “Akin Ka Nalang”
“That was a tough competition for me. Biritera pud kaayo akong mga kauban. Pero happy and thankful ko na daghan ang nisalig sa akong capabilities ug daghan ang misuporta nako.”Minglanilla said.
The CTE live band group will never be out of the picture as they conquered the stage with their rock OPM music. The members were Serge Travero (vocalist), Daryl Ranin (Keyboardist), Kevin Molo (Lead Guitarist), Ker Jay Rodriguez (drums), Jeriko Molina (Rhythm Guitarist), Vincent (Bass Guitarist)
On the other hand, Jhon Rey Quizeo and Hannah Faith Villamala from CAS won the Pop Duet Category.
All winners for this year’s CAFC will be CNU’s representatives for the 2015 Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) which will be held at Cebu Technological University – Tuburan Campus.
Thus, with all the victories that the educators have attained, Acop expressed her warmest sympathetic pleasure to all the participants who truly did their best to make it to the top. She also extended her deepest gratitude to all the officers who were always there to motivate and provide the needs of the participants.
“Educators have really shown something more different, dili lang kay kutob lang sa brain but we also have the talent and we really reflect and we know how to show the beauty of our culture here in Cebu. I do hope that ma continue pa ug defend and title as overall champion sa CFAC para mas maningkamot ang mga muapil puhon from our department na daugon jud ang certain category. To top it all, I am the proudest for everyone who was involved in this event”. she added.
Hannah Faith Villamala and Jhon Rey Quizeo of CAS wins Pop Duet Competition.
