CAS dominates in Arnis tournament

College of Arts and Sciences Arnis players racked up 11 gold medals and 4 silver medals in overall CNU Martial Arts Arnis Tournament.

 

Performers from CAS were hailed as champion both men and women in the Anyo Competition besting the teams from CTE,

 

Medellin and Balamban in SM Hall of the just finished CNU Intramurals 2015 last September 16, 2015.

 

Andro Piencenaves and Julie Jahr Barril were the stars of the tournament because they were the players who bagged majority of the gold medal awards. Andro took 4 gold medals in the bantamweight division, anyo team-double baston, double baston and anyo team-espada y daga. His fellow teammate JulieJahr took 2 gold medals in flyweight division and espada y daga. CTE won first place in the female Espada Y Daga competition while CAS placed 2nd for female Espada y daga competition. The team CAS also championed in both synchronized solo and double baston in Male and Female category while the men’s division category bagged the first place in Espada Y Daga.

 

According to JulieJahr Barril (one of the champions on men’s division from CAS) “para nako wala may lisod ikontra kung imo lang ginabuhat ug sakto ang kinahanglan buhaton as a player, ug focus sad ka sa imong gibuhat, ug ang pinaka importante di kayo ka kapasakit sa imomg kontra”; “for me, there’s no player who is difficult to fight on, for as long as you are focused, you are not hurting your fellow player badly, and for as long as you are applying the real aspect of being an arnis player then that’s the true essence of being a champion” when I asked him how would you define champion, and who is the hardest player to fight among them.

 

Meanwhile, the CAS-competitors which are CTE arnis team bagged 8 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Medellin Arnis team garnered 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medal and they are ranked 3rd in overall arnis tournament while Balamban team bought only Bronze medal in the full contact event and placed 4th against CAS, CTE and Medellin Arnis team.

The champions for each categories will represent Cebu Normal University (CNU) for the SCUAA regionals.
