Little did we know, that Icy Remolino, one of the best swimmers of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is a daughter of a National Coach of Triathlon and in fact, her younger brother is one of the member.
It runs in the blood, as we usually say. Icy has three siblings, two are boys and a girl are all into swimming. "I didn't actually chose swimming, since my dad has been a swimmer since he was young, so he's the one who introduced to us, na lang", said Icy when asked when did she learn swimming. "I think I am 9 or 10 years old when I started then until now, he coaches us", she added.
She is now a Junior BA-Communication student of Cebu Normal University and one of the best representatives the College of Arts and Sciences have.
Last summer, her eldest brother tried to join swimming. Unfortunately, he was refused since he is color blind. He is now working on a call center agent in Convergys located in I.T Park.
Her mother is the only one not having interest in the sport. She is now taking Bachelor of Elementary Education major in Filipino at University of the Visayas.
Icy doesn't actually had struggles in looking for a pool area where she can practice since there's
just a training pool nearby their house in Talisay City.
There are two factors that cause her struggle that she would always encounter in every competition
that she will joining. First , she doesn't want to disappoint her father, and that competing to his
standard as a National Coach is the toughest part of it. Lastly, her training schedule conflicts with her
class schedule.
"I guess last gani unta na Intrams, I won't join but it (the passion of joining) keeps on telling me
that I should join". Its not because she doesn't like it anymore, its just that she wanted to relax.
Nevertheless, Icy still came up victorious, not to mention, bringing home with her three gold
medals from the recently concluded Intramural Games 2015 in Cebu Normal University.
However, in any competition there would really come a time that you might not be able to finish
successfully. Thus, Icy is not an exemption. There was a time back when she was still on her 6th
grade, she joined a swimming competition and it's for a National Competition. She was disqualified because she have dived or started prior to the gunshots which signifies the start of the race. Her father became a bit disappointed. But that doesn't stop her from achieving her dream and overcome her fears of disappointing her father. That even added her enthusiasm to do better the next time. And her father's frequent motivation and assistance in her training made it easier for her to obtain success.
"He's a cool dad, actually", she said. He even teases Icy to have a boyfriend. "Oh Icy, you should have a boyfriend", those are the words that her dad keeps on telling her. "He's jamming", she added.
As a daughter, Icy is not the typical teenager if we base it to the modern trend. She prefers to be at home- a home buddy instead. Her parents, especially her father would sometimes encourage her to to go out and have some fun to socialize. But Icy prefers to be at home feeling the comfort and security of being at home just staying in her room watching TV.
"I don't actually go to parties", she admitted. Now Icy is learning triathlon just like her brother but is certain that she's not going to join any time soon since she is seeing it a bit harder than swimming alone, though its somehow related.
Icy beamed her smile proclaiming her victory recieving her first gold medal and topped the Women's 50 LC meter Breaststroke

Icy spends some bonding time with her family.
